Baby Food

Posted by Alisa Nakken

Reason #1: to SAVE money! Like most items the price for prepackaged baby food is outrageous.

Reason #2: so I know exactly what is in Maxwell’s food and where all the ingredients come from. This coupled with the chemicals and pesticides that might be in prepackaged food, it was a no brainer–I am making his food.

In order to do so I needed some essential products. The pictures in this post show how I made a spinach puree. Additionally, I’ve made cauliflower, broccoli, squash, zucchini, red peppers, peas, carrots, avocado, black beans, peaches, bananas, nectarines. The list goes on!

Baby Food Book

Firstly, I thought I registered for a baby food book which would be a good resource for recipes. What I got with Stephanie Middleberg’s, “The Big Book of Organic Baby Food,” is so much more. Along with over 200 recipes, she walks through the nutritional benefits, breaks down organic labeling, and provides tips on how to get a child to enjoy the high chair.

All-In-One Baby Food Maker

Secondly, I wanted an all-in-one baby food maker so I added a middle priced one to my registry. I already have a steamer, a pot, and a blender, so I didn’t necessarily need a all-in-one maker. However, I have found this one more convenient when it is hot as molasses and I want to avoid the stovetop. Plus the clean up is far less with just one tool as opposed to four.

Silicone Freezer Trays

Lastly, the final item is a silicone freezer tray. Although as an alternative you could use an ice cube tray. Once the baby food is frozen overnight I pop the individual servings out of the tray and transfer to a ziploc bag for longer-term storage.

It’s that easy! All you need are three items, four if you count the ziploc bags. Submit any questions or comments you have as I’d love to see them. XOXO!
